Prop Firms With No Time Limit: What It Really Means

What a no-time-limit prop firm challenge does and doesn't change about your risk rules, and how WICK FUNDED structures its deadline-free tracks.

A ticking clock is the single most common reason traders break their own rules during a prop firm challenge. Rush a profit target and you're more likely to oversize a position or revenge-trade after a loss. That's exactly what a time limit pressures you to do.

Here's what "no time limit" really means, why it matters, and how WICK FUNDED's rules are structured.

What a time limit actually changes in how you trade

Most legacy challenge structures gave traders 30 days (sometimes extendable) to hit a profit target. On paper that sounds generous. In practice, a trader who's down 2% with five days left behaves very differently than one with no deadline at all — the deadline itself becomes a reason to take worse trades.

No time limit removes that pressure entirely. You can:

  • Wait for genuinely good setups instead of forcing trades near a deadline
  • Take a break after a losing week without losing progress toward the target
  • Trade your normal size and frequency instead of compressing activity into a window

What "no time limit" does NOT mean

It's worth being precise here, because the phrase gets used loosely across the industry:

  • It doesn't mean no daily drawdown rule — you can usually still breach in a single bad day.
  • It doesn't mean unlimited attempts on one purchase — if you breach the max drawdown, that evaluation ends regardless of time elapsed.
  • It doesn't mean funded accounts are rule-free — payout eligibility and consistency rules still apply after you're funded.

How WICK FUNDED does it (simulated)

Every track at WICK FUNDED — the 2-Step Challenge, the 1-Step Challenge, and Instant Funding — has no time limit. There's no daily minimum trading requirement and no expiry date on the evaluation.

What still applies, regardless of how long you take:

  • A daily drawdown limit (4–5% depending on track)
  • A static max drawdown (5–6%, fixed from your initial balance — it doesn't trail upward as you gain, unlike some firms' trailing models)
  • A consistency rule (25–35% max single-day P&L) that applies once you reach a funded account

Our drawdown explained guide covers exactly how these rules interact with no deadline pressuring you into a mistake.

All WICK accounts are simulated — there's no real capital in the market during the evaluation or on a funded account. The absence of a time limit is a rules feature of the simulation, not a claim about real-money trading.

No time limit across the industry (general, last checked October 2026)

No time limit has become close to standard among leading prop firms rather than a rare feature — most major evaluation firms, including WICK FUNDED, FTMO, FundingPips, The5ers and Topstep, run their core challenges without a hard deadline. The meaningful differences between firms now sit elsewhere: whether drawdown is static or trailing, how tight the daily limit is, and whether a consistency rule exists at all. Always verify current rules on each firm's own rules page, since these details change.

FAQ

If there's no time limit, can I just wait forever to hit the target? Yes, within the drawdown rules — there's no clock forcing a decision. The daily and max drawdown limits still apply at all times, so patience helps, but risk discipline still matters.

Does no time limit apply after I'm funded, too? Yes — funded accounts at WICK have no trading time pressure either, though consistency and drawdown rules remain in effect for payout eligibility.

Is a firm with no time limit automatically easier to pass? Not automatically — it removes one source of pressure, but profit targets and drawdown rules still determine whether you pass.

Does no time limit mean no daily drawdown? No. Those are separate rules — see drawdown explained for the distinction between time limits, daily drawdown and max drawdown.

Can I pause for weeks and come back? Yes, with no time limit there's no expiry forcing you to finish by a certain date — pick back up whenever you're ready.
